No-Passport required destinations

We understand that it’s not always easy to find the perfect getaway or vacation spots. There are seemingly infinite options for you to consider and that can feel like a huge undertaking.

Destination Highlights are our way of presenting you with options that we think you’ll enjoy. These highlights are on the list because we’ve personally experienced them and believe they’re worth sharing with our TravelBy Wendy clients. Let us know if you want more information on any of our Destination Highlights. We want to help you Explore Amazing.

Our first Destination Highlight is the serene and relaxing La Cantera Resort & Spa located in the Hill Country of San Antonio. There are so many reasons we recommend this destination so let’s break it down.

Getting There

If you live far enough away, we obviously recommend flying into the San Antonio International Airport. La Cantera does not offer a shuttle service from the airport so once you arrive just hail a cab or an UBERand you’re on your way! Expect about a 20 minute drive out of the hustle and bustle of the city.

First Impressions

As you drive up the curving roads toward the resort the air seems fresher and the noise of the interstate falls away. The landscaping, illuminated pillars, and water features are breathtaking and the serene surroundings immediately melt your stress away. Upon entering the main building, the tan and brown tones, high ceilings, tall fireplaces, and gorgeous gardens catch the eye and make you feel at home.

The Staff

We like to refer to the welcoming staff at La Cantera as“Texas friendly”. They make check in a breeze and there’s no need to worry about your bags or anything – they have it all under control.

Your room

It’s very hard to imagine that you would have a room at La Cantera and not enjoy it. The 7th floor is adults only and this is the experience we want to tell you about. The rooms are well situated and have plenty of space. Rooms with a full wall of windows give you perfect views of the sunset. They greet you with a glass of champagne and escort you to your room which sets you up for a relaxing stay on the 7th floor.

The Spa

You can book your spa treatments online which is convenient. However, if you have any questions about their treatments, it’s very easy to call, ask them about the treatments, and book over the phone. It’s a simple process and worth taking care of ahead of time so you don’t have toworrw about it when you arrive.

The spa is located a short walking distance away. The walk is pleasant as you go through the garden with a couple of water features and a great view the whole way.

Once you arrive at the spa you just check in and go to the appropriate locker room. Once you get into your roomy robe, it’s time for treatments! We recommend the “Vibrant Living” package. It includes hands, feet, scalp, and full body massage – it’s a great way to get you relaxed to fully enjoy your time in the heated pool.

The Quench Juicery is located in the spa, as well. They can deliver meals to you either poolside or while in the quiet areas. (We recommend the Acai Bowl!)

The Restaurants

There are several restaurants on site that offer a wide variety of options. Breakfast is served either room service or in theSweet Fire Kitchen. The Signature Restaurant is a MUST! We recommend taking the complimentary transportation there so you can get their outstanding charcuteries + cheese board. The price point varies between each restaurant with The Signature at the top but it’s worth it to go for a special meal.

Tips for your Trip

·      La Cantera is a popular spot for locals to vacation to so if you have the option, plan your stay for weekdays and avoidFriday-Sunday.

·      We recommend using Uber if you’d like to go offsite and see the surrounding area.

·       Regardless of the floor you stay on – the resort and spa are gorgeous, the food is delicious, and the staff is friendly.

If you have any questions about this destination we’d love to share more about our experience with you and help you find the information you need. If you plan a visit at La Cantera, tagTravel By Wendy in your photos – we’d love to know how you enjoyed your stay!
